Skydiving
When I was in college I went with a group to do a static line jump. We went through the class, got suited up, climbed into the airplane and started to taxi out. As the pilot spooled up the engine for takeoff we got the abort call over the radio, the wind hit some magic number and we weren't allowed to jump. Fast forward a few decades. A co-worker (Mike) had a birthday coming up and a few of us in the office decided a jump would be a great present. Mike invited us to go with them. Here is our intrepid group.
This sign pretty much says it all!
Ground school is over, the gear is checked out. The guy to my left is the one with the parachute. I'm just along for the ride. Mike is in the background and doesn't seem to be as happy as I am here...
Our ride.
Loading up.
My son got a great shot of our plane as it taxied out.
The view from the door at 14,000 feet, point of no return.
This would be slightly past the point of no return. About a minute of freefall and then a couple of minutes under the canopy. What a rush!
The view from just under the cloud deck. We had stellar weather for the jump.
Tandem jumps are pretty cool. The instructor has a vested interest in getting everything right so it is a relaxed process.
Back on the ground and the experience is really starting to sink in.
Yep, that is one happy jumper. I can see doing it again...
