I am really loving my new
Canon EF 100-400
f4.5-5.6L IS USM zoom lens. These pictures
were shot on 11/02/08 on Lake Shasta, handheld and zoomed at 400mm from
the desk of a moving houseboat. I have always had a fascination with eagles and this trip was amazing. I probably shot over 100 pictures of eagles between Saturday and Sunday. |

As we snuck up on the eagle,
ok so sneaking isn't in the repertoire of a 50 foot houseboat, I was
mentally composing this shot. When he left his perch I was ready. I've already ordered a large format print of this picture to go on the wall in my office. This is my favorite shot so far...

This is the same eagle just a few seconds later. I couldn't just put up one on the wing picture... |

A picture of the lunar eclipse on August 28, 2007 at about 4:40am. This is actually a composite or stacked image created from about a dozen pictures which were processed individually to reduce noise and then analyzed and stacked. The final image shows better detail than any of the individual images. The results would have been much better if I had used my telescope but 2:00 AM was a bit too early during the work week. The pictures were shot with a Canon Digital Rebel, a 200mm zoom lens, and a 1.4 teleconverter for an effective zoom of about 280mm. |

Here are a couple pictures of my Jeep after a trip to LA to pick up material for some upcoming projects. The Jeep was probably just a little overloaded with about 1850 pounds of materials loaded inside. Note the distance from the rear tire to the body. |

After 30 minutes of unloading the suspension is much happier now. |

This is a bear we saw on our family trip to Lake Tahoe for the Renaissance Fair. Cute isn't he? Bet you won't try to take away his jar of mayonnaise... |

This picture was taken at Temescal Canyon in southern California by Kathryn Axtel. She captured the essence of slope soaring for me. Beautiful weather, scenery, good friends, and an airplane. I believe the airplane is the TG-3 full house glider I built for Dave shown here with Jameson on his shoulders. |

Another picture by Kathryn Axtel. I wasn't
even aware she was taken photos that day. I was giving Jameson a flying
lesson while his dad Dave enjoyed watching his plane fly. This is the
flying buddy Dave that kept me busy building the many of the planes
shown on this page. I love Kathryn's b/w photos, she has a fantastic eye for composition. |

This picture was taken by Thayer Syme a
good friend and occasional editor for some of my model reviews. The
airplane is my Super Cub but it is hard to tell in this shot that it is
a model and not the real thing. Thayer is responsible for the majority of my camera envy. The fact that he is a professional and has a much bigger budget really doesn't help me keep it in check. Oh well, he who dies with the most toys wins... |

Tight squeeze? Maybe just a bit. There was a little less than a quarter inch total clearance... The tree is just off highway 101 in Leggett California. A fun little stop on our way home after dropping Arron off at college. It was so much fun I had to go through again. I'd like to see a Hummer try that one! |
