Becky and I took a weekend trip to Lake
Almanor and Lassen Volcanic National Park for our anniversary in
November of 2004. We stayed in a cutesy little country cabin right on
the lake. Luckily we didn't stay long enough for the country decor to
rub off on us.
Here is a nice view from the boat ramp in
front of our cabin. Nice crisp morning air and a gorgeous view, what
more could you possible need? Ok, so a cup of coffee would have been
awesome but we headed out for breakfast soon after.
The view of the lake from our cabin.
A quick drive to Lassen Volcanic National
park found that all the roads in the park were closed due to deep snow
cover. Unfortunately, they wouldn't let us go play in the Jeep so we had
to park and hike. I was looking forward to a little 4*4 snow time, guess
that will wait for another trip. The snow was a couple of feet deep in
most places with some good sized drifts.
In this view you can see one of the many
boardwalks that are scattered throughout the park. Note the amount of
snow on the boardwalk. You can also see steam rising from one of the
many hissing fumaroles and boiling mud pots that dot the landscape. Mmmm,
love the smell of sulfur in the morning!
A better view of a bubbling fumarole.
There were also several hydrothermal springs cascading down the hills
melting the snow.
