Industrial Hobbies Mill |
 |
After working with my mini mill and
running some small production runs I decided it was time to upgrade.
After much searching I picked the IH Mill and an order was placed for
the mill and CNC conversion kit. On October 1st the Mill arrived at
work, much easier and less expensive than shipping it direct to the
house. Darrell was kind enough to fork it into a rental trailer. |
 |
All 1000 pounds loaded and ready to roll.
One thing that can't been seen here are a couple of stout blocks to keep
the mill from sliding forward. |
 |
The crate was disassembled and then slid
to the rear of the trailer with good old fashioned brute force. |
 |
Brute force wouldn't cut it here. A shop
crane was purchased and has proven to be a useful addition to the shop.
A few minutes of stress while the mill was dangling in midair and the
trailer was pulled out. After repositioning the mill and crane it was
ready to roll into the garage. Notice the left rear wheel isn't actually
on the floor. |
 |
The mill nearly in place. You can see the
electric service I ran for the mill. A 220VAC 30 amp circuit was run
with a 20 amp service disconnect at the mill. With the mill sitting on
the stand I fabricated a few weeks earlier it was finally time to relax. |
 |
The mill bolted to the stand, lightly.
I'll gradually torque them down over a couple of weeks. I also lowered
the stand on the feet. They were all the way up to clear the shop crane. |
 |
Tool gloat time, I purchased a brand new
Kurt vise with factory warranty through eBay for only $355, retail is
over $560. |
 |
With an 8.8" opening it can almost swallow
the vice from my mini mill. There are still a few inches of travel left
in this picture! |
