Fleet Week 2005 |
 |
We decided to run down for Fleet Week and
proceeded to spend an hour trying to find a place to park. I finally
gave up, put the Jeep in 4*4 low and drove up under an off ramp above
the Embarcadero. We had a nice view of the bay but it was a little hazy
as you can see in this shot of Alcatraz. |
 |
My son took this from the Jeep while we
were looking for a parking spot. |
 |
The Blue Angles, the finest precision
flying demonstration team in the world. |
 |
One of the solo pilots on a low pass over
the bay, barely clearing the masts on the big sailboats. He was actually
lower on the far side of the bay and throwing a rooster tail from the
exhaust on the water. |
 |
Too far away and too much haze but a cool
picture anyway. |
 |
A little closer. |
 |
A nice slow pass with everything hanging
out in the breeze. |
 |
One of the solo pilots pulling a high "g"
turn directly in front of us. |
 |
Formation flying at its best, no room for
mistakes at all. |
 |
More diamond formation flying. |
 |
Six up delta formation with plenty of
smoke. The best part of our location was watching most of the show at
eye level. |
 |
Hey, hey, hey, its Fat Albert, the support
transport for the Blue Angles. |
 |
They fly Fat Albert like it is a fighter.
It is surprisingly nimble for a large plane and certainly isn't lacking
for power. On one pass they came in on the deck over the bay and pulled
into a 40+ degree climb at stage center. |
 |
A slow fly by directly overhead. The
rumble was worth the pain and suffering of finding a parking spot. |
 |
Flying just above stall it appears to
barely be moving. |
