Ensenada Cruise |
 |
For my daughters graduation from high
school in 2005 we took a cruise to Ensenada Mexico. The trip left from
Long Beach which is the current berth for the Queen Mary. What an
opulent way to travel. |
 |
Well, a little more pedestrian mode of
transportation awaited us. Still a really big boat but not even in the
same class as the old gal. |
 |
A little lighthouse on Catalina Island
where we put in for a few hours. |
 |
The Catalina Casio has some cool Art Deco
murals. |
 |
This is what happens when you hand a
random tourist a high end digital camera and ask them to take a quick
family picture. Oh well, at least Arron was in focus... |
 |
On the island only golf carts are allowed
for basic transportation. The golf cart tow truck had me rolling in the
street laughing. |
 |
Old generator we saw on a day hike. We
hiked from the port most of the way up the hill until we were stopped by
private property. |
 |
We've made it to Ensenada and took a day
trip to visit one of the landmarks. This time I picked a tourist with an
expensive camera, it seems like a better bet. We are standing on the
observation platform overlooking La Bufadora which is an awesome blow
hole shooting water 50-100 feet in the air when the waves hit the shore. |
 |
The color of the water is incredible. |
 |
Rainbows in the spray. |
 |
More rainbow. |
 |
The Mexican flag in the port city. Arron I
took a hike over to the flag after we had finished site seeing for the
day. |
 |
That is one huge flag! The flag pole is
337 feet tall, the flag measures 124 feet by 164 feet. It requires a
garrison to raise and lower. If you look close at the base of the pole
you can see a minute figure. The next photo shows just the bottom
section of the pole. |
 |
Now we can see the figure is Arron who was
nearly six feet tall at the time. I'm am still blown away by the size of
the flag. The locals just shrug and say "You should see the one at the
Capitol"! |
