A couple of my scoutmaster friends (Scott
and David) and I took a day trip to Yosemite out of uniform for a
change. We took a nice hike up Cloud's Rest and enjoyed a fantastic
trip. There is a natural rock formation almost at the summit that
resembles a giant lizard. Another scouter, Cindy, asked me if it was
possible to climb on top of the lizard so naturally I had to find out.
The pictures were taken by David who has a minor issue with heights. I
apologize about the suffering I caused David, I think he was much more
stressed than I was!
The lizard rock formation. The
summit is just about 100 yards to the left.
The final bit of climbing. It
isn't as bad as it looks but as always, if your mother would yell at you
for doing this, don't do it!
Sorry 'bout that Mom, I could almost here
you in my head but the lack of oxygen at the altitude made it hard to
understand what you were saying.
Feels like the top of the
world. The view behind is a bit distressing since it looks like a giant
ice cream scoop was used to remove most of the granite just behind my
left foot. It is a shear drop of hundreds of feet until the rock slopes
out to meet the valley. Yikes!
A moment to rest and collect
my thoughts before rejoining my friends.
Just past the point of no
return. The little voice in my head was screaming at this point. I think
it sounded like WOOHOO!
The gear is now in the fully
down and locked position.
