Ward's Corner

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet!

My name is Ward Shelley and I am a modern day renaissance man. That is to say that I have a diverse range of interests, from woodworking and machining to photography. This web page is where I will try to chronicle some of my more interesting projects.

I have been playing on the internet since the days of using search engines called Archie and Veronica and my 300 baud acoustically coupled modem was "state of the art". I finally decided that it was about time to create my own web presence. This collection of random bits is the result.

If you have questions or comments, please feel free to leave them in the feedback page or send me an e-mail.

What's new?
04/14/2012 Back in September of 2011 I realized a long time goal, hike Mt. Whitney. At 14,501 feet it is the tallest peak in the lower 48 and a spectacular journey. Here is your chance to see it through the lens of my camera.

04/14/2012 Overdue but hopefully worth the wait. The last practice hike before Mt. Whitney was Mt. Dana in Yosemite. An intense six mile round trip that tops out at over 13,000 feet. The views from the top are just rewards for a difficult trek. Click here to tag along for the hike.

11/03/2011 Becky and took a long weekend at Yosemite to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I've added a page with some pictures from the trip.

08/10/2011 Where does the time go? I've been watching the net for a Fly Press for a long time and recently one showed up on Craig's List in Gilroy. Learn what one is and what it takes to move, clean, repaint, and re-assemble one. If you are impatient and just want to see it doing something, click here to see a video of pressing studs from a wheel hub, or here to see a video of it crushing a steel paint can.

04/27/2011 Another long gap, I've been busy. Turns out I haven't mentioned much about blacksmithing so I've added a page about my new forge.

11/06/2010 Ok, so they are long overdue, here are some pictures from the Reno Air Races for 2010. In my defense, I've been a bit busy and it takes a while to sort through over 1700 pictures. This year I saw George Giboney survive what some would call a rough landing. After calling a "Mayday" he was attempting to land in the very strong and gusty crosswind. The pictures tell the story. I hope to never take pictures like that again.
